With a drier climate than her sisters in the Gulf of Thailand, Koh Samet is the island closest to Bangkok. A T-shaped island previously called Ko Kaew Phitsadan (“Island with magic crystal”), it is part of the National Park of Khao Laem Ya – Mu Ko Samet. Covered with jungle, it offers a series of sandy silky white beaches, isolated from each other by rocky outliers: forming many quiet coves, all great places for swimming and rest. It is the ideal destination to escape the frenetic life of Bangkok and yet it is little frequented by Western tourists. Its main beach, Hat Sai Kaew (“white sandy beach”), includes nice restaurants and cool bars. Nearby is the monumental siren erected in memory of the famous Thai poet Sunthorn Phu. And not far from there you can visit the Temple of the Great Buddha.

After having enjoyed the beach on Koh Samet and devoted some time to visit the marine farm near the pier, you can easily access various small rocky islands with incredibly beautiful coves. Consider diving with equipment or snorkelling to explore in peace marine areas
