Lanna with its hilly landscape and the proximity of Burma has always been a place of immigration for the hill tribes. This trek brings you to the Red Lahu. A day of walking across a dense forest brings you to Kub Kab, their village, where you will be able to share and learn about their way of living. On your way back you reach first the Chinese village of Huay Sathan and then the Huay Sathan waterfall where you can swim. Another hike brings you to the Mae Taeng River where you make a funny rafting in dinghies in turbulent water, then a more relaxed trip on a bamboo raft. A ride on elephants and a visit one of the famous orchid nurseries in Chiang Mai will conclude this fabulous experience.
You head to the north and the mountains near Chiang Dao. First, you’ll stop at a local market. Your guide will do some shopping for the days to come. He will take you and explain the various ingredients he will use for dinner. You then go to Huay Sri where you take a country road for Keng Keud. You will have lunch in the village before starting the hike. You will pass a small elephant camp before reaching a small waterfall. You then continue walking uphill through the forest. At some places, your efforts will be rewarded with fantastic and spectacular views. Your trekking ends today while walking through corn fields and rice fields until you reach the town of the red Lahu, Kub Kab. Here you can relax, explore the village and learn some Thai cooking by helping your guide to make dinner. He will explain the herbs and ingredients he uses. After dinner, your guide will take you to one of the houses where you will meet some of the villagers. You will sleep in a house in the village.
When the sounds of nature and the activities of the locals have wakened you, your guide will prepare breakfast. After breakfast you start hiking along a trail with beautiful views of the forest until you reach the Chinese village of Huay Sathan where you can relax a little. You will keep on walking until the first level of the Huay Sathan cascade, then you walk along the river Kub Kab to reach the second level of the waterfall where you can swim and lunch. Afterwards it is only a short hike to reach the Mae Taeng river where boats will be waiting. You start with a fun rafting in dinghies in turbulent water. After this adventure, you continue with a more relaxed trip on a bamboo raft. A ride on elephants will conclude this fabulous experience. On the way back you make a stop to visit one of the famous orchid nurseries in Chiang Mai.
